John is nationally board certified in hearing instrument sciences and is also certified by the American Conference of Audioprostology. John has been taking care of the needs of the hearing impaired throughout Florida for the past 24 years. John offers insight into the often confusing symptoms of hearing loss, especially when noise exposure is involved. He also covers the advancements into the treatment of nerve deafness and presents information concerning the recent findings from Johns Hopkins that untreated hearing loss dramatically increases the probability of developing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. John has lectured throughout Florida since 1985.
Katelyn Richter, AU.D
DOCTOR OF AUDIOLOGY
Katelyn received her doctorate in audiology from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She was born and raised as a Hoosier, but recently relocated to Cape Coral to be closer to family. Katelyn is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance disorders in all populations from infant to geriatric. She is passionate about educating patients on the correlation between untreated hearing loss, depression, and cognitive decline.
When Katelyn is not helping patients hear, she enjoys spending time with her mini goldendoodle, Daisy, lots of shopping, and traveling the world with friends and family.
Jake Nuffer, AU.D
DOCTOR OF AUDIOLOGY
Dr. Nuffer has been a part of Hoglund Family Hearing since September 2019. He became interested in the field of audiology after accompanying his grandparents as they sought hearing help from an audiologist in Kansas. Dr. Nuffer was so inspired that he opted to shadow his grandparents’ audiologist and continued on to purse a lifelong career helping others to communicate with their family, friends and loved ones. When Dr. Nuffer sees a patient, he brings the excellent care, respect, and attention to detail that he witnessed when he shadowed his grandparent’s audiologist. He has had the unique experience of serving his grandfather as a patient, and this forever changed his perspective on excellence in hearing healthcare and the overall patient experience at a hearing healthcare clinic. When you visit Dr. Nuffer for your hearing needs, you will be treated like family.
Averie has been exposed to this field ever since she was a young child, watching her parents change lives with the gift of hearing. She is so thankful and thrilled to be a part of the family business, alongside some of the most talented hearing professionals and audiologists in the industry! It’s safe to say that, because two of those wonderful people happen to be her parents, Patricia and John Hoglund. Averie thanks them for all their wisdom and support through this journey. She is so excited to work and grow by their side in hopes of improving the quality of many lives.
Derick Winn is nationally Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences and is a Florida licensed hearing aid specialist. Derick is a tinnitus care provider and has special interest regarding the correlation between untreated hearing loss and Alzheimer’s/dementia. Derick enjoys spending time with his very patient wife and their three wonderful children, Rome, Jax and Gracie.
Ray Wenck has been dispensing hearing aids for 22 years. He is board certified, has been in private practice and managed the West Coast of Florida for a national company. He has worked with all major manufacturers. Ray presents lunch and learns, and sponsors and trains numerous individuals in the profession. He is sought after as an expert for open houses. Ray is an avid golfer, and is very family oriented.
Yoelkis Valdes, HAS
Hearing Aid Specialist
Yoelkis Valdes is a Florida licensed hearing aid specialist.
Yoelkis was born and raised in the beautiful Caribean island of Cuba, where she graduated as a Licensed Nurse just before coming to the USA in 1995. After learning a new language in 1999 she became a Hearing Instrument Specialist and worked for a while, but stayed home raising her kids for many years. Yoelkis has improved her knowledge and skills working with ENT Doctors and Audiologists over the years and enjoys helping the hearing impaired Patients to improve their quality of life.
She loves spending time with family, outdoor activities and traveling.
Meet Patrick Rahilly from our Metropolis location. He is a native of NJ who moved to Cape Coral in 1991. When he isn’t at work he likes riding his Harley, ballroom dancing, playing tennis and walking on the beach. He has 7 grandchildren who he loves to spoil! Patrick got into the hearing aid business after being inspired by a friend. He enjoys helping people improve their quality of life by hearing better with their aids.
Ben J. Brody
Since 2002, Ben has been a Florida Licensed Hearing Aid Specialist and, since 2004, has been Nationally Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences. He is currently serving as President-Elect with the Florida Society of Hearing Healthcare Professionals and has been a member of their board for the last 8 years. As incoming President, Ben hopes to improve the professional services the industry provides through education and active participation in the International Hearing Society initiatives. Helping the hearing impaired community of Southwest Florida to improve their quality of life is what Ben continues to do every day.
Chris Ela is a native of New Hampshire. He has lived in Cape Coral since 2007, where he lives with his wife and beautiful daughter, Kadence. Chris enjoys golfing, boating and fishing. He has a deep compassion for patients suffering with Tinnitus and loves to help people live a more fulfilling life.
Maddy Thomas was born in New Orleans, LA and moved to Florida in 2006. She likes being able to assist both patients and coworkers, as we work together as a team to treat hearing loss.
Maddy enjoys reading a good book, spending time on the beach (basically anything outside), and travelling (she has been to 17 different countries and enjoys learning about different people and cultures).
Director Of Public Relations And Educational Outreach
Tina Gleason hails from Central Illinois, where she also worked in the hearing industry before relocating to Florida in 2013. Tina will be found all over the SWFL region working at health fairs, seminars, lectures and other events. She is passionate about educating the community about the help that is available for those with hearing loss.
In her spare time Tina performs with acapella vocal groups Toast of Tampa Chorus and Coastal Voices Chorus. She also enjoys beach time, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
Patient Care Coordinator
Maria was born in Manila, Philippines and came to America in 1996. She has been living in SWFL for 17 years. In her spare time Maria likes to spend time with family and friends. She enjoys going to the beach, fishing, and playing outdoors with her two boys, Nathaniel and Timothy. Maria loves the relationship she has with patients. Hoglund Family Hearing has taught her to strive to be the best PCC she can be.
Patient Care Coordinator
Michelle graduated from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL in 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Science. She slowly made her way south through Florida, enjoying it’s beauty in Clearwater, Lake Okeechobee and Sarasota. She was drawn back to her home town of Ft. Myers. Michelle enjoys any day on a golf course no matter what her score is, and any day fishing, boating or beaching it on our beautiful waters here. Being positive and kind to others is a core belief of Michelle’s.

Stephanie Kelley is a Patient Care Coordinator. Stephanie is originally from Brockton, MA and moved to Naples, FL in 1991. Stephanie attended Salem State College and started working at Hoglund Family Hearing in 2019. Stephanie began working in the hearing industry in 2019 and was drawn to the profession because of the Outreach Marketing program(s).
