HOGLUND FAMILY HEARING ANALYZES CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS CAUSES

The human ear is made up of three main components: the outer, middle, and inner ear. An individual with conductive hearing loss usually has an issue with their outer or middle ear. They could have a waxy blockage preventing them from being able to hear, or they could have a fluid build-up or ear infection because of a cold or allergy. Conductive hearing loss causes also include birth defects, hereditary loss, punctured eardrums, benign tumors, and otosclerosis (abnormal bone growth in the middle ear).

Whatever the cause for your conductive hearing loss, the result is the same. Sounds are not reaching your inner ear. If you suspect you may have conductive hearing loss in the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, or Estero area of Florida, contact Hoglund Family Hearing and Audiology Centers for a quick, accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

RECOGNIZING THE COMMON SYMPTOMS OF CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS

If loud or soft noises have begun to sound muffled, you may be experiencing conductive hearing loss. Something is preventing sound from reaching your middle or inner ear. Conductive hearing loss may occur in one or both ears and affects patients of all ages, including children. Here are the most common symptoms associated with conductive hearing loss:

  • Muted sounds
  • Pain or tenderness in your ears
  • Dizziness
  • Draining of fluids in your ears
  • A stuffy sensation in your ears
  • Sudden or steady hearing loss

IS IT IMPORTANT TO DIAGNOSE AND TREAT CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS?

If you’ve experienced any of the above symptoms, you should schedule an appointment with an audiologist at Hoglund Family Hearing and Audiology Centers at your earliest convenience. The earlier you diagnose hearing loss and take the necessary steps to correct it, the better off you’ll be in the long-term. Hearing loss often impacts other aspects of your physical, emotional, mental, and social wellbeing. Our audiologists will go over your best treatment options and any risks associated with them to help you make the best decision for your care. Ignoring hearing loss can make it worsen over time.

HOW DOES HOGLUND FAMILY HEARING TREAT CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS?

Conductive hearing loss is typically corrected using hearing aids, medication, or surgery, depending on the cause and severity of hearing loss involved. Many patients with damage to their eardrums or the bones inside their ears may require surgery. However, it’s essential to understand that even with surgery, your conductive hearing loss may not always be successfully reversed. Many of our patients with conductive hearing loss benefit from wearing a hearing aid, which is capable of transmitting sound to your outer or middle ear. In most cases, conductive hearing loss patients will see notable improvements in their hearing after treatment at a Hoglund Family Hearing clinic. This type of hearing loss makes up about 10% of the cases we see.
