Your Guide to In-the-Ear Hearing Aids in Fort Myers, FL Area

Hoglund Family Hearing Specializes in Discreet Hearing Aids

Many people experiencing hearing loss seek invisible or discreet hearing aids to help correct the issue without others being able to tell they’re wearing them. If you fall under this category, Hoglund Family Hearing and Audiology Centers offer many in-the-ear hearing aid options in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, and Estero, FL. In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids are custom-made for each patient to fit inside the outer portion of your ear comfortably and discreetly. These hidden hearing aids are easy to adjust and are recommended for patients with mild to severe hearing loss. To find out if an in-the-ear hearing aid is right for you, we suggest contacting our office closest to you to schedule an evaluation!

Which In-the-Ear Hearing Aid Style Is Right for Your Needs?

In-the-ear hearing aids come in many styles to maximize their comfort and invisibility. Styles we provide at Hoglund Family Hearing include all of the following:

  • Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) – Invisible-in-canal hearing aids fit inside the second bend of your ear canal and are removed daily. IIC hearing aids are among the smallest available on the market and are practically undetectable by others. When discretion is of the utmost importance, you can’t go wrong with an IIC model. Many patients also report this style of hearing aid produces the most natural sound quality because they’re placed so close to your eardrum. However, this type of hearing aid may not fit everyone’s ears, and they’re usually not recommended for patients with severe hearing loss.
  • Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC) – A completely-in-the-canal hearing aid sits so far inside your ear canal that it must be removed using a removal string. This type of model works best for patients with mild-to-moderate hearing loss. A CIC hearing aid is less likely to pick up wind interference, but it’s also more susceptible to earwax clogging its speaker and to having a short battery life.
  • In-the-Canal (ITC) – An in-the-canal hearing aid sits in the lower, outer bowl of your ear canal. While this style may be a bit bigger than an IIC or CIC hearing aid, it’s large enough to include extra features such as volume control or even a directional microphone for improved hearing.
  • Half-Shell – A half-shell hearing aid fits inside the lower portion of your outer ear. While this style may be more visible than other in-the-ear hearing aids, it’s also easier for our patients to adjust and remove, and it usually enjoys a longer battery lifespan.

Benefits of Using an In-the-Ear Hearing Aid for Hearing Loss

A first-time patient is far more likely to consider an in-the-ear hearing aid than our behind-the-ear models because they like the appeal of having an invisible hearing aid. Other benefits offered by ITE hearing aids for our Fort Myers-area patients include all of the following:

  • A Custom Fit – In-the-ear hearing aids are custom-made using a mold of your ear. Because they fit your ear’s shape exactly, they’re usually more comfortable than other models. However, many patients are unable to wear them due to the shape of their ears or severe hearing loss.
  • Better Sound – In-the-ear hearing aids usually offer less feedback for a higher-quality, natural sound because they’re situated closer to your eardrum. They also tend to pick up higher frequencies than behind-the-ear hearing aids.
  • Lightweight – In-the-ear hearing aids are lightweight to make them more comfortable for our patients, and they shouldn’t impede your ability to wear headphones or a telephone headset. You also won’t have to worry about any external tubes or wires for the ultimate discretion.
